The start of Domino Day 2004 was a very exciting beginning, because the jojo
stone didn’t reach the start project.
It looked like the rope was too short. However, in several tests before, the rope proved to be long enough, so what was the cause?
During the live show the temperature conditions inside the domino hall were different as a result of the warmth that the television lights produced. The temperature inside the hall increased till about 40 degrees Celsius. The outside temperature was very low. The roof of the domino hall is built up from metal profiles. Metal expands more when the temperature differences are bigger. The rope of the jojo stone was attached to one of these metal profiles. When the metal expands, the distance between groundlevel and the roof got even bigger than during the tests. So the rope became too short!
