Leeuwarden - 18/09/2006 - After eight months of intensive preparations the moment has finally come for us to realise all the plans that we've been working on. This all starts with loading part of our office and technical workshop into a truck and setting it back up again inside the FEC in Leeuwarden. Here the so-called Domino Hall is our domain for ten weeks.
Before we can actually start building dominoes we need two weeks of prepartion. During these two weeks we have various jobs to do. The most important job is measuring out all the points and drawing in all the lines on the floor. This way we can determine where we have to place the dominoes during the building process. This year's edition of Domino Day involves a lot of floor paint. Each of the musical themes has its own theme colour. These colours are painted on the floor by hand. In the total project we have got to paint over 5,000 square metres of domino floor.
The first weeks inside the domino hall are always exciting. At the beginning of these two weeks the hall is still empty, but very quickly the hall starts to fill up. As soon as the floor is painted the hall has a totally new look. All of the dominoes that we need for the project are delivered, organised, counted and recounted to make sure that all the dominoes are present.
