Istanbul - 20/04/2008 - We have made an incredible Domino Show to promote the municipality of Istanbul, counting 15 million inhabitants, and to celebrate the annual International Children’s Day on April 23rd. They asked us to create and set up a large Domino Show with a unique character. The show was eventually broadcasted live on the Turkish TV-channel Kanal D.
International Children's Day
To celebrate the full independence of Turkey, which they won after years of war, Atatϋrk gifted April 23rd to the children. Every year on April 23rd, the seats of Parliament are held by children, and a child becomes President for a day. A week before this day there are many festivities. This year one of them was our special Domino Show.
Domino Show
The first domino was not toppled by the mayor of Istanbul only, there were seven more dominoes which were toppled at the same time by children. These seven children represented the seven hills on which Istanbul is build on and also the seven colours of the rainbow.
An impressive show of 165.000 dominoes showed different views of the city of Istanbul. Of course a portrait of Atatϋrk and the Turkish flag took part in this great show. We managed to set a Turkish Domino Record of 164.911 dominoes toppled, which created a lot of extra media attention! The enthusiastic mayor thanked our crew for the great show, which was a good promotion for Istanbul itself.
Children's Participation
With 15 professionals working for 9 days on location, Weijers Domino Productions created an unforgettable domino experience for the children of Istanbul. But we did not build the entire show. During the event over 100 children were asked to contribute to the show. During a whole week of building the children placed over 300 big dominoes making together the seven hills on which Istanbul is build.
The event was very successful both in domino as in communication goals and had a lot of free publicity. Several national channels like CNN Tϋrk, TRT 1, CANALI, NTV, TV8 and ABC News payed attention to the wonderful show during their news items.
Search the internet on ‘Nisan’ & ‘Domino’ and you will find some nice videos of the Domino Show!
