News: City Marketing with Domino

Istanbul - 20/04/2008 - Weijers Domino Productions has made an incredible Domino Show to promote the municipality of Istanbul, counting 15 million inhabitants, and to celebrate the annual International Children’s Day on April 23rd. They asked the domino experts to create and set up a large Domino Show with a unique character which would provide a lot of media attention for Istanbul. The show was eventually broadcasted live on the Turkish TV-channel Kanal D.

City Marketing

For a successful promotion of the city of Istanbul the creative domino team designed a tailor made Domino Show. The show included several touristic highlights like the famous ‘Blue Mosque’ and the ‘Bosphorus’ which separates Istanbul in an European and Asian part. Of course a portrait of Atatϋrk and the Turkish flag took part in this great show. To attract extra media attention for the beautiful city Istanbul the domino show was also created to set a Turkish Domino Record: 164.911 dominoes toppled! The enthusiastic mayor thanked the domino crew for the great show, which he said was a “wonderful promotion for Istanbul”.

Media Results

The event was very successful both in domino as in communication goals and had a lot of free publicity. Several national channels like CNN Tϋrk, TRT 1, CANALI, NTV, TV8 and ABC News payed attention to the wonderful show during their news items.

Participation

With 15 professionals working for 9 days on location, Weijers Domino Productions created an unforgettable domino experience for Istanbul. But the domino crew did not build the entire show. During the event over 100 children were asked to contribute to the show to underline the celebration of Children’s Day. Weijers Domino Productions created a concept in which the children placed over 300 big dominoes making together the seven hills on which Istanbul is build.
