Leeuwarden - 13/11/2008 - ‘Celebrating 10 years of Domino Day- Breaking more World Records than ever-‘ is the central theme of this year's spectacular edition of Domino Day. In cooperation with the Guinness Book of Record, we found and selected the following ten records in which we can establish the domino toppling record:
Years Go On: Most Dominoes Toppled in a Spiral
An enormous spiral made of dominoes with a length of 200 meters, is the longest spiral ever built. The spiral looks like the year rings of a tree. Every ring has its own colour and represents a domino year. Next to the rings you will see pieces of decor, which you will probably recognise from the previous years of Domino Day!
Atlas: Most Dominoes Stacked on One Single Domino
We are going to beat the current Guinness world record, which was set in 2003 by the German Matthias Aisch. He stacked 726 dominoes on 1 domino. We will use a small mechanism to place 1 additional domino during the show. The record is only established if the stack remains standing for a full hour. During the show we will return to this stand to see if we broke this world record.
Mount Domino: Highest Toppling Domino Climb
An enormous piece of decor represents the Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. If all goes well the dominoes will climb to a height of no less than 11,5 meters!
Stamp: Most Mini Dominoes Toppled
No less than 1000 miniature dominoes of 1mm x 3,4mm x 7,2mm have been placed in the shape of a postage stamp not bigger than half of an A4 sheet!
Domino XXL: Largest Toppling Domino Stones
In Germany, an attempt was made with dominoes of 3,5 meters, but our giants are no less than 4,8 meters high. That means that they are 100 times larger then the standard domino. 1.000.000 of normal dominoes fit into such an absurdly large domino!
Motorcycle Jump: Longest Domino Wall
The longest domino wall, with more than 21.000 dominoes, almost 16 meters long, represents the longest jump ever made on a motorcycle. Since New Year's Eve of 2007, this record has been held by the super stuntman and daredevil Robbie Maddisons. He jumped over an entire American Football field with his motorcycle!
Fire: Tallest Domino Structure
This will be the largest 3D domino stack. The current record was established during the Domino Day 2006 show in the project Ghetto Life, with a stack of 2832 dominoes. For our record about 22.000 3D stacked dominoes, in the shape of a large campfire have been prepared to smash the old record!
Sprint Competition: Fastest Toppling Domino Setting
We are going to see a live competition between a human being and dominoes over 30 metres. In a competitive sprint, the famous Churandy Martina will compete against the dominoes that have been placed by using different techniques. Who will be the first to cross the finishing line?
Biggest Field: Largest Domino Mosaic
10 years of Domino Day are represented in this largest domino field ever build. 1.000.000 dominoes have been set up showing 10 large pictures of Domino Day from 1998 to the present 2008 passing by.
Domino Day 2008: Most Dominoes Toppled by a Group
At the end of the show we will know if the final record of most toppled dominoes will be broken. Will we accomplish to break the World Record Domino Toppling set in 2006? The record is set on 4.079.381 dominoes.
